One date is not enough to calculate your legal deadline. The claim type, location, discovery dates and other circumstances can change the analysis. Use this guide to prepare for a consultation; do not wait until you have every document to ask for help.

Bring what you have

Check the information you have available. This checklist is not submitted or saved.

Different deadlines can apply to the same matter

A deadline to notify an insurer or employer is not necessarily the deadline to file a lawsuit. Pre-suit requirements and settlement programs can have separate rules. A lawyer needs to review which apply to your circumstances.

If you think a deadline has passed

Do not rule out your situation based on a calculator. Ask for a prompt review of the dates, documents and possible exceptions.
